Day 1 ResultsAUSTIN, Texas – Eastern Illinois opened competition at the NCAA West Track Regional on Thursday with two athletes placing in the top 24 in the qualifying rounds to advance one step closer to the National Championships in Oregon.
Ephraim Dorsey and
Norvel Mohammed both placed in the top 24 in their events to advance to the Friday sections. Dorsey posted the fourth fastest time in the men's 800m run finishing with a time of 1:48.95. Mohammed had the ninth best time in the men's 400m dash with a time of 46.58. Mohammed will also compete in the prelims of the men's 200m on Friday.
Johnathan Boey was the other EIU men's athlete in action in running events on Friday. Boey placed 46th in the men's 100m with a time of 11.15.
Kendall Williams was the first EIU athlete in action on Thursday placing 26th in the men's long jump with a top mark of 23'9.25".
Kristen Paris was the lone EIU woman to compete in the NCAA Regional as she placed 43rd in the 800m on Thursday evening with a time of 2:13.15.
Saturday's action will include
Calvin Edwards and Mohammed in the 200m.  Dorsey will compete in the 800m quarterfinals while Mohammed will compete in the 400m quarterfinals.Â
