EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Eastern Illinois women's soccer took an early lead on an own goal but could not make that early advantage stand up falling 2-1 on Tuesday night in exhibition play at Evansville.
EIU was limited to just one shot on the night off the foot of freshman
Kaci Schonert.  The Panthers played three freshmen goalkeepers with
Maddie Lyon and
Erin Morgan holding the Purple Aces off the board for the first 60 minutes making a combined seven saves. Â
Evansville tied the game in the 74th minute with a goal by Molly Lear on a cross from the far corner. Â Abby Springer hit the game winner three minutes later with a goal from just inside the 18-yard mark.
Evansville ended the night with 22-1 shots advantage. Â
EIU opens the season on August 21 at IUPUI with a 6 pm match. Â The home opener is Sunday, August 23 against Northern Kentucky at 3 pm at Lakeside Field.
