MSU Tops Men's Soccer 3-0 Wednesday Evening

Missouri State handed the EIU men's soccer team a 3-0 loss Wednesday evening.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Eastern Illinois men's soccer team played in their third televised match of the season falling to Missouri State 3-0 Wednesday evening on ESPN 3. The loss marks the sixth loss in a row for EIU as the Panthers fall to 2-8-1 overall while remaining 0-2-0 in the Summit League. MSU improved to 6-3-1 on the season following the victory.

The Bears out shot EIU 11-4 throughout the match with all four of the Panthers' shots coming in the second period.

EIU managed to make it to halftime only down by one goal coming from the Bears' Scott Midgley very early in the match. Midgley scored on the assist from Tyler Swanner to put MSU up 1-0 in the seventh minute.

Starting goalkeeper Mike Novotny managed to keep the Bears from extending their lead in the first period recording all three of his saves in the first half.

Missouri State out shot the Panthers 6-0 throughout the first half.

It was not until the 64th minute of the match that MSU would find the back of the net again as Swanner earned his second assist of the match finding Emmerich Hoegg to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.

MSU added one more goal to their total in the dying seconds of the match as Harry Lewis slotted the ball home to earn the final score of 3-0 in the 90th minute.

All four of EIU's shots came in the second half as Jonathan Huerta, Marcus Menniti, and Tyler Massa all logged a shot on goal. The Panthers fourth shot came from Davis Wegmann who leads EIU with 10 shots on the season.

The Panthers step back into Summit League play in their next match traveling to Omaha this Saturday (Oct. 8) at 2 p.m.
