Iowa State opened the scoring Sunday afternoon as the Cyclones' Aly Cappaert hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to make it 2-0 in favor of ISU.

The Panthers pulled one back in the top of the third as singles from Haylee Beck and Kayla Bear loaded the bases for EIU. Kylie Bennett then stepped up to the plate and grounded out to first base, but earning the RBI as Beck came around to score to pull EIU within one 2-1.

The Cyclones extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as Sally Woolpert hit a single into center field to bring the runners on second and third base around to score. Iowa State finished the inning up 4-1.

EIU tried to answer in the fifth inning loading the bases once again as Jennifer Ames opened the inning with a double to left field. ISU's Savannah Sanders pitched her way out of the jam with back-to-back strikeouts. Sanders finished the game with 10 strikeouts.

Wireman struggled in the fifth walking the first two batters. ISU's Rachel Hartman then singled to load the bases, and Wireman walked the next batter to advance the runners and put Iowa State up 5-1. Following the walk the Panthers brought in Michelle Rogers to relieve Wireman.

The Panthers' pitching woes continued as Rogers walked another run home. Iowa State scored once more in the bottom of the fifth as Kelsey McFarland scored on a passed ball. Rogers and the Panther defense settled down and made it out of the inning without giving up any more runs as ISU led 7-1 going into the sixth inning.

Iowa State closed it out in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring three runs to run-rule the Panthers and earn a 10-1 win in six innings.

EIU will be back in action next weekend as they travel to the Troy Classic tournament. The Panthers open next weekend's tournament play against McNeese State Friday [Feb. 19] at 12 pm.
