Box Score

TROY, Ala. - Eastern Illinois softball was blanked by Ole Miss in their final game of the Troy Classic falling to the rebels 8-0 in five innings.

With the loss the Panthers fall to 3-7 on the season after failing to pick up a win in the weekend tournament.

Jessica Wireman struggled on the mound in the first inning for EIU giving up a single to the Rebels' Melina Preciado to open the bottom of the first. Preciado would advance to second on a wild pitch before Hailey Lunderman advanced to first due to a hit by pitch. Lunderman eventually crossed home plate on a single to open the games scoring and put Ole Miss up 1-0.

The Rebels added two more runs in the bottom of the first as Courtney Syrett doubled to left center field to bring the runners on second and third home and extend Ole Miss' lead to 3-0.

Wireman made it out of the inning without any more trouble, but was replaced by Michelle Rogers to start the second inning. Rogers held the Rebels at bay until the fifth inning when Ole Miss put the game away.

Ole Miss scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning including a two-run home run from Bri Payne to run-rule the Panthers and earn the 8-0 decision.

EIU recorded three hits against Ole Miss as Mady Poulter went a perfect 2-of-2 from the plate. Kayla Bear also contributed a single in the top of the first inning.

Rogers finished the game with 3.2 innings pitched and two strikeouts, but Wireman was credited with the loss falling to 3-6 on the season.

The Panthers look to turn things around as they head to the UT Chattanooga Frost Classic this coming weekend opening tournament play against Northern Kentucky Friday [Feb. 26] at 11 am.
