Box Score

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Eastern Illinois softball fell to Miami [OH] 7-0 in their final game of the UT Chattanooga Frost Classic. With the loss the Panthers fall to 4-11 on the season.

It was a rocky start for Jessica Wireman on the mound as Michaela Schlattman homered on the Redhawks first at bat of the game to put Miami [OH] up 1-0. Wireman's pitching woes continued as the Redhawks loaded the bases following a hit-by-pitch and two straight walks. Michelle Rogers was then brought in to replace Wireman.

Miami [OH] added two more runs in the first inning off of a sacrifice fly and an infield single before EIU got out of the inning trailing 3-0.

Haylee Beck finally put one in the hit column for EIU in the top of the third with a double to left center field, but the Panthers could not get anything going.

The Redhawks extended their lead in the bottom of the third inning as Johniann Wahl doubled down the left field line to score the runners on first and third base. Miami [OH] added one more run before the inning was over as a single brought Wahl around to give the Redhawks a 6-0 advantage.

The Panthers had their most productive inning in the top of the fourth as Jennifer Ames opened the hitting with a single through the left side. The Redhawks turned a double-play on the next at bat. April Markowski and Kylie Bennett hit back-to-back singles but EIU could not get a run on the board as the Redhawks closed out the inning.

Miami's Kaitlyn Gliha opened the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run to give the Redhawks a 7-0 lead. EIU managed to keep the game alive as the defense managed to close out the inning and keep Miami from adding the all-important eighth run.

The Panther defense stepped up once again in the fifth inning to keep the Redhawks off the scoreboard even after the bases were loaded. EIU avoided the run-rule loss lasting seven innings, but Miami [OH] finished the game earning the 7-0 win.

The Redhawks' Amber Logemann earned the victory on the mound for Miami [OH] with seven innings pitched and five strikeouts. Rogers finished with 5.2 innings pitched and two strikeouts, but Wireman was the pitcher of record recording the loss for EIU.

EIU takes the field again this Saturday [Mar. 5] at the Southern Illinois Coach B Classic. The Panthers open the tournament against Kansas at 10:30 am.
