Box Score

PEORIA, Ill. - Eastern Illinois softball came back from their unscheduled week off downing the Bradley Braves 3-2 in seven innings Monday afternoon. With the win the Panthers improve to 5-15 on the season while snapping an eight game losing streak.

The Panthers added Monday afternoon's game against Bradley after having their last five scheduled games cancelled due to rain.

Jessica Wireman put one in the win column earning the seven inning complete game win while recording seven strikeouts. Wireman also snapped a losing streak with the win improving to 4-12 this season following an 11-game losing skid.

The Braves took the lead early against EIU in the bottom of the first inning. Bradley's Alyson Clemente singled to left center field to score Kelly Kapp from second base and put the Braves up 1-0.

The Panthers answered right back in the top of the second inning as April Markowski hit an infield single to the pitcher. Tori Johnson then doubled down the left field line to bring Markowski around to third base. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch from Bradley's Julie Kestas to tie the game 1-1.

It was not until the fifth inning that EIU managed to take the lead over Bradley. Andrea Roberts and Kayla Bear singled in the top of the fifth to put runners on first and second base with two outs. Jennifer Ames reached first base on the next at-bat following a throwing error from Bradley's short stop. Ames made it to second base following another throwing error from the Braves this time from the first baseman. Both Roberts and Bear scored during the chaos to put EIU up 3-1 on two unearned runs.

Bradley threatened to tie it up in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Braves put runners on second and third base with no outs. Wireman and the Panther defense managed to close out the inning without any damage as they earned all three outs on the next three straight batters.

The Panthers once again got into a little trouble in the bottom of the sixth inning as Bradley loaded the bases with no outs. EIU's defense stepped up once again earning three straight outs to close out the inning and head into the seventh still leading 3-1.

The Braves pulled one back in the bottom of the seventh inning as Bradley threatened to send the game into extra innings. Wireman closed out the game herself recording her seventh strikeout of the game with the bases loaded to give EIU the 3-2 victory.

Markowski finished the game going 2-for-3 at the plate for EIU. Kaitlyn Crossen also recorded a hit in her lone plate appearance pinch hitting for Haylee Beck.
