Box Score

CHARLESTON, Ill. - Eastern Illinois softball dropped their lone match to Butler 3-0 on a very breezy Tuesday afternoon. With the loss EIU drops to 8-16 on the season but still remain a perfect 3-0 in the OVC, while Butler improved to 16-12.

The Panthers and Bulldogs were originally set to play an afternoon doubleheader, but due to the extremely windy conditions decided to cancel the second game.

Michelle Rogers earned her ninth start of the season for EIU going 6.1 innings on the mound and recording seven strikeouts. Rogers was the pitcher of record for the game falling to 1-4 on the season.

It was a very defensive battle between both teams for the majority of the game as neither team could string together hits and bring a runner around to score until late in the game.

EIU managed to put a little pressure on in the bottom of the second inning as Kylie Bennett started the inning with an infield single to the third baseman. The Panthers could not manufacture a run, though, as Taylor Monahan was caught stealing after coming in to pinch run for Bennett. April Markowski managed to record a hit by utilizing the excessive winds as a pop-up towards second base drifted all the way over to shallow right field allowing her to reach base safely. Markowski ended the inning stranded on second base.

Those would turn out to be the only hits the Panthers recorded all game as the 0-0 tie went on deep into the game.

The Panthers got into a jam in the top of the fifth as the Bulldogs put runners on second and third base with only one out in the inning. Rogers managed to keep the game tied as she threw out Jenna Foreman who was headed for home plate following a small blooper from Sarah Dixon who reached first base on the fielder's choice. Dixon ended up stealing second on the next at bat as Katelyn Cahill loaded the bases with a walk. Rogers managed to get out of the inning without any damage forcing the next batter to fly out to right field.

It wasn't until the top of the seventh inning that the Bulldogs would strike as Butler opened the inning with back-to-back singles from Maggie MacBeth and Dixon. A sacrifice bunt advanced the runners to second and third base forcing a pitching change for EIU as Jessica Wireman came in to get the Panthers out of the inning. It did not stop the Bulldogs as Kaitlin Doud singled through the left side to put Butler up 1-0. The Bulldogs added to their lead as Alyssa Lach earned the RBI reaching on a fielder's choice. The Panthers attempted to throw out Dixon at home, but were unsuccessful as the Bulldogs extended their lead to 2-0. Butler added one more run before the inning was over as Audrey Hiner hit an RBI single to end the inning up 3-0.

Maggie MacBeth finished the game going 4-for-4 at the plate for Butler.
