Box Score

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Eastern Illinois softball took game three over SIU Edwardsville 4-1 to win the series against the Cougars Saturday afternoon. With the win EIU improves to 21-25 on the season and 15-7 in the OVC.

Kylie Bennett had a massive day for the Panthers finishing the game 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs, one home run, and one run scored.

The Panthers started off the game on a high note after Haylee Beck earned a walk to reach first base. Beck was able to score all the way from first base as Katie Watson drilled a double to center field to put EIU up 1-0.

Bennett followed suit with a double of her own to center field on the next at-bat to bring Watson around and extend the Panthers lead to 2-0 before the inning came to a close.

Bennett added another run in the top of the third inning, hitting her second home run of the series to give EIU a 3-0 lead. Following her solo home run Bennett now has eight home runs this season tying her for second all-time at EIU for home runs in a season.

The Cougars finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning as Alyssa Heren singled up the middle to open the inning. Another single for SIUE put runners on the corners as Tess Eby hit a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 3-1.

Kayla Bear hit EIU's fourth double of the game in the top of the seventh inning before Beck drove her in on the next at-bat. Beck's single to left field extended the Panther lead to 4-1.

Bear finished the game 2-for-4 with one run scored. Jessica Wireman improved to 15-17 on the season after throwing two strikeouts in her seven innings on the mound.

The Panthers finish the regular season next weekend at home with a three-game series against Southeast Missouri.
