Women's Soccer Loses 1-0 To JSU

Panthers give up deciding goal in 77th minute

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Following heavy rain all week in Charleston, Illinois, Eastern Illinois and Jacksonville State faced off in women's soccer on Friday afternoon in a constant drizzle in Champaign, Ill., playing at the Judah Christian Field of Dreams.   JSU would score in the 77th minute to pick up a 1-0 win in the match.
 
EIU dropped to 5-9-1 overall, 0-6 in the OVC.  The Panthers will host Tennessee Tech on Sunday at 1 p.m. for senior day.  A decision on location for the match will be made on Saturday based on playing conditions for Lakeside Field.  JSU improved to 5-7-2, 2-4 in the OVC.
 
EIU and JSU played a scoreless first half with both teams firing a number of shots off.  JSU had nine first half shots and 18 total shots for the match.  EIU finished the first half with six shot attempts and ten attempts for the game.
 
The difference in the match came in the 77th minute when Danielle Monroe played what appeared to be a slow rolling shot back towards the EIU goal.  The ball was misplayed and rolled all the way through to the back of the net for the only score of the contest. 
 
JSU had a total of ten shots on goal with Sara Teteak making the other nine saves.  Caroline Robinson pitched a shutout making the two saves she needed two in the win for JSU.
 
Henar Urteaga and Kate Olson recorded the two shots on goal for EIU.  Both players also led EIU with three shot attempts each.
