EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - SIUE hit .344 in the final set on Wednesday night as the Cougars beat the Eastern Illinois volleyball team in three sets (25-22, 27-25, 25-14).
EIU was led by
Taylor Smith who posted a her seventh triple-double with ten kills, 11 assists and 11 digs.
Allie Hueston had the best hitting percentage of the night for EIU hitting .294 with six kills.
Jackie Scott led the Cougar attack for the night finishing with a team-high ten kills. Right behind Scott for SIUE was Taylor Joens, and Ashley Witt who both finished with nine kills each. Keeping the Cougars defensive in check was Katie Shashack who led with 22 digs on the night.
The second set featured the most ties with six, and lead changes with four throughout the match. The set would close out with the Panthers putting the Cougars on their heels having to win the set by two. Both teams kicked off the set with 4-0 runs and would continue to trade points throughout the set. Leading the Cougars in kills for the set was Scott with seven, and for the Panthers,
Maria Brown and Smith led the EIU attack with three kills each.
Leading the Panthers in assists for the night was
Gina Furlin who collected 14.
Anne Hughes led the EIU defensive collecting 21 digs.
Abby Knight,
Laurel Bailey, and Smith all claimed three blocks each to help out defensively for the night.
The Panthers return to action Saturday where they will travel to Nashville, Tennessee for a conference showdown against Belmont at 2 p.m.
