CHICAGO – Eastern Illinois women's soccer opened the 2017 season on Friday evening with an exhibition match at UIC. The Panthers allowed three goals in the second half as they suffered a 4-1 loss to the Flames.
EIU will open the regular season next Friday, Aug. 18, at IUPUI.
UIC scored quickly in the exhibition match as Olivia Everin found the back of the net in the third minute of the first half. The goal came off a cross at the left top of the goal box from Tamae Douglas.
The Panthers were able to knot the match at 1-1 in the 19th minute as senior
Emma Scaro scored unassisted on a shot from the top of the goal box.Â
UIC put the game away during a five minute span late in the second half as Keri Birkenhead collected a hat trick with goals in the 72nd, 73rd and 77th minute.  Bekah Allen and Everin picked up assists on the Flames goals.

Sara Teteak made five saves playing the entire match for the Panthers. UIC had three goalkeepers split time in the net making four saves.Â
