CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois volleyball team closed exhibition play with a 3-2 loss to IUPUI (17-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-19, 12-15).

EIU battled back to take both the third and fourth sets with hitting percentages of .316, .303. Helping contribute to the Panthers success was senior
Allie Hueston who was one of three Panthers with eight kills along with
Taylor Smith and freshman
Kylie Michael.Â
Gina Furlin lead the Panthers in assists with 16. Smith also contributed in digs with a team high 18.Â
Laurel Bailey totaled three blocks.

IUPUI took the first two sets and then the last one with help from Gabby Fisher who led the team with 15 kills.  Kori Waelbroeck and Abby Boatmen both tallied 10 kills.

Going into the fifth set tied the Panthers came up just shy of achieving the comeback win. The fifth included a bunch of runs from both teams the Jaguars jumped out early to start with a 3-0 lead ignited by a kill from Fisher. Later in the set the Panthers had a 3-0 run with a Smith kill. The Panthers came up shy of the victory falling (12-15) in the final set to conclude play.

The Panthers will open regular season play at home during the EIU Panther Invitational on Aug. 25-26. EIU will host Bradley, Green Bay and Memphis in the two day event in Lantz Arena.
