Women's Soccer Suffers First Loss Of The Season

EIU falls at home to Milwaukee, 2-0

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Milwaukee scored in the opening eight minutes to set the tone for a fast paced match as Eastern Illinois suffered its first loss of the women's soccer season.  Milwaukee would win 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Lakeside Field.
 
Milwaukee improved to 3-0-1 on the year while EIU fell to 2-1-1.  EIU returns to action next Friday evening at Valparaiso.
 
Milwaukee scored its first goal of the match in the eighth minute as Anna Smalley quickly passed the ball to a sprinting Lourdes Onwuemeka down the right side.  Onwuemeka would send a cross into the box that was sent home with a one touch goal by Aubrey Krahn.
 
Milwaukee would continue the pressure later in the first half as MacKenzie Schill found the back of the net on a header in front of the goal.  The play was a scramble for the ball with the assist credited to Jen Eberhardy.  Milwaukee finished the match with 14 total shots, six shots on goal.  They had a total of 12 corner kicks in the match.
 
EIU would manage three shots on goal against Milwaukee starting goalkeeper Mallory Geurts.  Emma Scaro, Pilar Barrio and Sarah DeWolf registered the shots on goal. 
 
EIU continued to try and avoid the shutout with a late shot by Ali Carlson from the left side just sailing high in the final seven minutes.  EIU had a total of five shots.
