NASHVILLE – Belmont jumped out early as the Bruins swept the season series against Eastern Illinois with a 81-59 win on Thursday night in Nashville.
EIU fell to 7-13 overall, 3-6 in the OVC. The Panthers complete the Nashville weekend swing on Saturday night at Tennessee State. Belmont improved to 16-6 overall, 8-1 in the OVC.
Dylan Windler scored 19 of his 28 points in the opening half as the Bruins raced out to a 51-28 first half lead. Belmont shot 58 percent from the field in the opening half and finished the game shooting 50 percent from the field.
EIU's two post players,
Muusa Dama and
Aboubacar Diallo, both picked up three first half fouls. Tyler Hadden took advantage for Belmont scoring 11 first half points and 17 for the game. Belmont held a 24-14 points in the paint advantage in the opening half.
Mack Smith scored eight of his 16 points in the first half.Â
DeVantae' Price scored six points off the bench in the first half. Price finished with a career high 12 points.
Belmont was able to take EIU's leading scorer,
Montell Goodwin, out of the game in the first half limiting him to just four points. Goodwin would score seven for the game ending a streak of 12 straight games with double figure scoring.Â
