Charleston, Ill- The Eastern Illinois volleyball team traveled to Edwardsville, Illinois to take on SIUE Wednesday evening. The Cougars defeated the Panthers in five sets.
 
With the loss, EIU drops to 9-17 and 4-7 in the OVC.
 
EIU came out aggressive in the first set as they continued their momentum from their OVC sweep this past weekend. The Panthers were able to string together a couple of 4-0 runs throughout the first set, which would end up being the difference maker of the set as EIU would take the first set 25-18.
 
SIUE would break EIUs streak of seven straight sets by defeating the Panthers 25-22 in the second set. Both teams traded points early throughout the set. SIUE was able to jump out to a 4-0 run early to pull away from the Panthers. The Cougars would help secure the match with a 5-0 run ignited by a Rachel McDonald kill late in the set.
 
The Cougars would take their momentum from the second set into the third set. SIUE would lead majority of the third set, The Panthers would attempt to comeback with a 7-0 run late in the set, however, the Cougars were able to capture the third set on a Maggie Runge attacking error.
 
The fourth set featured both teams trading points throughout the whole set. The fourth set featured a match high 24 tie scores and nine lead changes. The Panthers and Cougars continued to trade points in the fourth set, until EIU was able to steal the set and force a fifth set winning 35-33.
 
SIUE was able to jump out to a quick 4-0 run in the fifth set. The Panthers tried to battle back but SIUE was able to secure the match defeating EIU 15-11.
 
The Panthers return home to Lantz Arena for a weekend dig pink match up against OVC opponent Belmont.
