Volleyball Wraps Up Season With Senior Night

EIU volleyball wrapped up their 2018 season against Austin Peay for senior night.

Charleston, Ill- The Eastern Illinois volleyball played host to OVC opponent Austin Peay to wrap up the 2018 season.  The Panthers fell to the Governors 1-3 Saturday evening.
 
With the loss, EIU falls to 10-21 and 5-11 in the OVC.
 
EIU honored seniors Gina Furlin, Abby Knight, Anne Hughes, and Taylor Smith for senior night.
 
The first set started off with a match-high five tie scores. The Panthers combined for their second best hitting percentage of the match, hitting 58%.  Smith led the Panthers with a team-high five kills in the set. The Governors were able to grab the first set from the Panthers 25-20.
 
The Governors were able to take their momentum from the first set into the second set and take a commanding lead over the Panthers. Austin Peay would hit for their highest percentage of the evening in the second set at 75%. Cecily Gable led the Governors offense in the second set with team-high five kills.
 
The Panthers came out aggressive in the third set jumping out to an early 6-0 run.  EIU commanded the lead throughout the third set.  The Panthers hit for their highest percentage in the third set at 61%.  Danielle Allen led the Panthers in kills with five in the set.
 
EIU carried their momentum from the third set into the fourth set as they jumped out to an early lead over Austin Peay. Austin Peay battled back as the two teams traded points for a total four times throughout the set.
 
Smith finished the night with her 5th triple-double of the season with 18 assists, 11 digs, and 10 kills. Maggie Runge finished with 12 kills and five blocks.
