EIU Bench Scores 57 In Win Over Red Lions

The Panthers shot 53 percent from the field and 45 percent from the arc

CHARLESTON, Ill. - Eastern Illinois women's basketball put up 97 points Monday night in their win over Lincoln Christian. EIU's bench poured in 57 points led by Danielle Berry with 10, while Camino Tellez, Kira Arthofer, and Abby Wahl each added eight. With their 97-34 win, the Panthers improve to 2-1 on the year.

The Panthers had their highest scoring quarter this season with 28 points in the first 10 minutes. Karle Pace and Taylor Steele led EIU with eight points each in the first quarter. Pace was 3-for-4 while Steele was 3-for-5 leading the Panthers to 55 percent from the field. Steele finished with a game-leading 16 points going 4-for-5 from the arc. Pace finished with a team second best 10 points.

EIU scored 23 points in each of the final three quarters, while holding the Red Lions to single digits in each quarter. Damonique Miller led the Panthers with five points in the second quarter, Jordyn Hughes scored seven in the third quarter, and Camino Tellez scored all of her eight points in the fourth quarter.

Jennifer Nehls finished the game with seven points, six rebounds, and a team high four steals. Miller and Jalisha Smith both went 3-for-5 from the field and grabbed five boards each. 

The Panthers dominated the paint and the glass. They outscored LCU 56-18 in the paint and held a 47-33 advantage on the boards. EIU also converted LCU's 37 turnovers into 37 points.

Abigail Crockett scored a team-best 13 points, while Becca Adams added 11 points and four boards. The Red Lions finished 0-for-7 from three-point range and shot 30 percent from the field.

The Panthers will be back in action Thursday Nov. 15 at 12 pm at home vs. Purdue Fort Wayne.
