The Eastern Illinois baseball team will open up their 2018Â season down in Monroe, La. With a three-game set against ULM. The Panthers return 27 players from the 2017 season and will have 12 newcomers competing for playing time as well this year.
The Panthers trio looks to offensively lift the Panthers in the 2018 season.
Jimmy Govern, Joe Duncan, and
Dougie Parks all earned spots on the Preseason All-OVC team.
Jimmy Govern led the Panthers hitting .335 last season with 62 hits, 11 home runs, and 50 RBI. Joe Duncan earned one of the outfield spots with his 2017 (.331, 84 hits, 47 RBI, 18 stolen bases). Lastly, in the designated hitter spot was
Dougie Parks (.300, 18 home runs, 57 RBI). The Panther trio looks to offensively lift the Panthers in the 2018 season.
The Panthers return a large amount of their pitching staff from last season including two weekend starters in
Alex Stevenson and
Logan Beaman. Stevenson was second on the team last season in appearances recording 22. Stevenson also finished third on the team for innings pitched with 58.2. Beaman recorded a total seven innings pitched last season, and earned himself a save.
Junior newcomer
Carson Haws from Sonalo CC California will be on the mound for the Panthers Saturday. The right handed pitcher had a solid freshman campaign finishing the season with a 2.51 earned run average with a 4-4 record. He worked 57 innings on the mound with 51 strikeouts. As a sophomore he battled some injuries during the season but still averaged more than a strikeout per inning with 44 strikeouts in 42.2 innings of work. He led the Bay Valley Conference in strikeouts and was an All-Conference selection.

Carson Haws will get the start in game two on Saturday. Senior
Logan Beaman will close out the series on the mound for the Panthers on Sunday.
Eastern Illinois is playing in its 112
th season of intercollegiate baseball. EIU has an all-time record of 1,752 and 1,550 loses. After the series against ULM the Panthers will travel to Memphis, Tennessee to take on the University of Memphis (Feb. 23-25).
