CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Ashton Luttrull hit a 3-pointer with 0.6 seconds remaining as Southeast Missouri beat Eastern Illinois, 51-48, on Wednesday night at the Show Me Center.
EIU fell to 2-24 overall, 1-14 in the OVC. The Panthers return to action on Saturday at 4 p.m. at UT Martin. SEMO improved to 12-15 overall, 7-8 in the OVC.
The two teams traded the lead over the final six minutes of the contest leading to the dramatic finish. A free throw by Tesia Thompson put the Redhawks up 44-42 with 5:29 to play.Â
Danielle Berry would tie the game with 4:24 to play on a lay-up in the lane.
The Panthers held a one point lead twice in the final two minutes. A
Grace McRae lay-up with 2:02 to play gave EIU a 46-45 lead.Â
Carmen Tellez then had a lay-up with 35 seconds left in the game putting EIU up 48-47.
On the next SEMO possession, Deja Jones would get fouled with 25 seconds left in the game. Jones hit one of two knotting the game at 48-48. EIU had the final shot but following a miss, Jones pulled down the rebound and called timeout with 0.6 seconds left to play.
After advancing the ball to midcourt, Luttrull caught the inbounds pass, turned and sank the 3-pointer for the win. Luttrull had 12 points for SEMO.
EIU opened the first quarter shooting 60 percent from the field with Tellez scoring eight of her 12 points during the first quarter.  EIU and SEMO were tied at 15-15 after the first quarter as the Redhawks held an 11-7 rebound margin with seven of those rebounds on the offensive glass.
Both teams struggled offensively to open the second quarter. EIU would then close the quarter with a 7-0 run as they held a 28-22 halftime lead.Â
Karle Pace scored seven of the Panthers last nine points in the quarter. She would finish the game with 16 points.Â
Pace would put the Panthers up nine points with a basket at 6:45 of the 3rd quarter as she drained a 3-pointer from the top of the key giving the Panthers a 33-24 lead. EIU would go cold for just under six minutes allowing SEMO to make an 11-0 run. A pair of free throws by Jones with 2:38 to play would tie the game at 33-33.Â
After SEMO took a 35-33 lead on a lay-up by Luttrull, EIU would close the third quarter on a 4-0 run. Pace ended the Panthers cold snap with a driving lay-up with 59 seconds left in the quarter.Â
Taylor Steele would give EIU a 37-35 lead at the end of the third quarter with her jumper.
Thompson led SEMO with 13 points. Jones had 12 points.
