CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -
Michelle Rogers and
Valerie Thompson combine for a perfect game as Eastern Illinois softball beats Alabama State 11-0. The Panthers extend their winning streak to ten straight games and improve to 12-3 on the season. Rogers records the win for EIU and improves to 6-2 on the mound.
The Panthers held nothing back to start the game as they recorded seven hits and eight runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Kayla Bear started things out for EIU as she reached first base on a bunt.
Mady Poulter instantly drove in Bear with a double down the left field line. Alabama State walked
Haley Mitchell only to bring
Mia Davis to the plate. Davis homered to left field and tallied 3 RBI to put EIU up 4-0.
Kiley Pelker later hit a double to center field recording two RBI, while Bear and Poulter drove in the Panthers final two runs of the inning giving EIU an 8-0 advantage after the first inning.
EIU finished the bottom of the second inning with three hits and three more runs to secure an 11-0 win over Alabama State.
The Panthers recorded 12 hits as a team. Bear, Poulter, Davis,
Kendyl McKeough, and Pelker all went 2-for-2 at the plate. They held tight on defense not committing an error and Alabama State failed to get a hit or reach the bases. Rogers and Thompson tallied one strike out each and did not walk a single batter completing a perfect game.
The Panthers will play in the Red & Black Classic next weekend in Louisville, Ky. They will open the tournament Saturday March 3 vs. UAB at 9 am.
