The Eastern Illinois baseball team fell behind in the sixth inning surrendering four runs which led to their loss to Georgia State 7-2 in the series opener Friday afternoon.
Eastern Illinois fell to 5-3 while Georgia State improved to 5-3.
Eastern Illinois got on the board first in the top of the fourth inning.
Jimmy Govern led the inning off with a lead of double to left.
Logan Beaman followed up with a sacrifice bunt that would move Govern to third.
Dougie Parks picked up his seventh RBI of the season connecting for a single through the left side which scored Govern.
Georgia State would answer back in the bottom of the sixth scoring four runs. Nick Gatewood got the Georgia State rally started with a one-out single through the left side. Gatewood would move into scoring position due to a Jake Corso two-out single to right. Tanner Thompson would follow up with Georgia State's third single of the inning scoring Gatewood, and advancing Corso to second. A Luke Leonard double would score Corso, and advance Thompson to third. Will Kilgore would extend the Georgia State lead to 4-1 with a base clearing single.
Georgia State would add three runs extending their lead to 7-1 within the next two innings on a Gatewood single, and a Kendall Ford single.
EIU would attempt the comeback in the ninth scoring on a
Jimmy Huber ground out with the bases loaded. Eastern Illinois comeback was halted by dominant pitching, and Georgia State picked up the victory defeating EIU by a final score of 7-2.
Alex Stevenson took the loss for the Panthers as he allowed four runs in 5.2 innings pitched.
Parks finished 2-for-3 with a double, walk, and a run. Govern also hit 2-for-3 this afternoon recording a double and a run.
The Panthers will look to even out the series at Georgia State tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m.
