Baseball Comes Up Short Against Indiana State

EIU baseball falls short in their midweek contest against Indiana State, 10-8

. - Indiana State used a number of multi-run innings to take the midweek tilt against Eastern Illinois. Indiana State was able to hold of EIU defeating the Panthers 10-8.

With the loss EIU dropped to 8-11 on the season, while Indiana State improved to 12-5.

The Sycamores were able to jump out to an 8-0 lead before the Panthers put some pressure on Indiana State midway through the contest. Tyler Whitbread got the start on the mound for Indiana State. Whitbread earned himself the win, advancing his record to 1-1 on the season. Whitbread tossed 3.0 innings, with six strikeouts, four walks, two runs, and a hit.

Dustin Wilson suffered the loss for the Panthers on the hill this afternoon allowing four runs (3 ER) in 1.2 innings.

EIU was able to cut the lead down to two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning with a six run rally. The highlights of the rally featured a pair of homeruns. Matt Albert got the Panthers on the board launching a three run homer to left field. After a Logan Beaman double, Josh Turnock would blast the Panthers second home run of the inning launching a two run shot to right center.

The Sycamores answered back in the top of the sixth inning adding two runs to extend their lead to 10-6.

In the bottom of the seventh the Panthers once again put pressure on the Indiana State pitching staff scoring two runs. Logan Beaman became the first Panther to reach a base in the bottom of the seventh when he reached on a fielding error by Jake Means. Ryan Knernschield would follow up with a double to left center, which advanced Beaman to third. The Sycamores would gain their second error of the inning when Turnock reached on a throwing error by Clay Dungan. Beaman was able to score on the play cutting the Indiana State lead to 10-8.

Ethan Larrison earned his sixth save of the year for Indiana State as he was able to shut down the Panther offense for 2.2 innings. Larrison had four strikeouts and surrendered a hit.

Turnock finished 2-for-5 on the day with four RBIs, a home run, walk, and run. Dougie Parks finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, walk, and run. Beaman finished 2-for-4 with two runs, a double, and walk. Matt Albert went 1-for-4 with three RBIs, a home run, walk, and run.
