DANVILLE, Ill. – Eastern Illinois women's tennis picked up a 7-0 win over Tennessee State on Saturday evening at the Danville Tennis Center as the Panthers swept their Ohio Valley Conference weekend.
EIU improved to 4-1 in the OVC and moved to .500 for the season at 10-10. TSU fell to 11-6 overall, 1-4 in the OVC.
The Panthers opened the match winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles for the second straight day to jump out to a 1-0 lead.
Stella Cliffe and
Grace Summers won 6-1 over Ashia Jones and Morgan Cage at No. 1 doubles.
Srishti Slaria and
Claire Martin quickly followed suit with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles over Pragati Natraj and Ani Popiashvili.
In singles action the Panthers won five of the six matches in straight sets as they won 7-0 for the second time this season. The other clean sweep in a match was against Western Illinois on Feb. 3.
Martin was the lone EIU player that needed a third set as she beat Natraj 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 10-8 to win for the fourth time in her last five matches.
Emily Pugachevsky continued her good play at No. 4 singles as she improved to 9-1 in that spot in the line-up this season with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Abhilasha Vishwanath. Pugachevsky has won four of her last five matches.
Summers won her second straight match at No. 2 singles beating Aarushi Kakkar 6-1, 6-4. With the win Summers moved into a tie with Sandra Sasidharan for second on the EIU career singles wins list with 54.
Cliffe won her third match in the last four contests with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles over Popiashvili.
