Richmond, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky combined for three home runs early to jump out to a quick lead against EIU. EKU defeated the Panthers, 5-0 Saturday night.
With the loss Eastern Illinois drops to 13-24 (4-13 OVC), while Eastern Kentucky 20-20 (11-6 OVC).
Jack Piekos earned the win on the mound for Eastern Kentucky, improving to 2-2 on the season. Piekos tossed 6.0 scoreless innings, with seven strikeouts, three hits, and two walks.
Ryland Kerr has been on a hot streak so far this series against EIU. Kerr hit a one run double in the first game of the series last night. In the second game Kerr kicked off the first inning with a two run homer to right center.
Kerr would hit his second home run in his second plate appearance of the day in the bottom of the third inning, driving a solo home run to right center.
EKU would extend their lead to 4-0 when Tyler Romanik would hit Eastern Kentucky's third home run of the game. In the bottom of the seventh inning Romanik would earn his second RBI of the game extending EKU's lead to 5-0 with a double to left center.
Alex Stevenson suffered the loss on the hill for the Panthers dropping to 2-6 on the season. Stevenson tossed 4.1 innings, with six hits, four runs, three walks, and one strikeout.
Jimmy Govern finished 1-for-3 with a walk and stolen base.
Josh Turnock finished 1-for-3 with a walk.
