Men's Tennis Falls At Austin Peay

Panthers lose final OVC match, 5-2



Match Results

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Eastern Illinois men's tennis battled on Saturday morning in the Panthers final Ohio Valley Conference match of the season but came up just short losing at Austin Peay 5-2.
 
EIU is now 5-16 overall, 1-5 in the OVC.  The Panthers will now have to wait until next weekend to see if they advance to this year's OVC Tournament in Nashville.  EIU will host Marian (Ind.) University next Saturday at 2 p.m. for the Panthers senior day at Darling Courts.  Austin Peay improved to 2-15 overall, 1-4 in the OVC.
 
The two teams opened doubles play with each school winning one match.  The Governors won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles while EIU won 6-3 at No. 3 doubles with Grant Reiman and Logan Charbonneau winning the match.  APSU would then win 6-4 at No. 2 doubles to take the point.
 
Austin Peay won the match winning in the middle of the line-up as the Governors secured points at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 3 singles to clinch the match.
 
Freddie O'Brien would give EIU its first point of the match winning at No. 1 singles over Almantas Ozelis.  O'Brien posted a 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 win.
 
Jared Woodson won the other point for EIU playing at No. 6 singles.  He posted a 6-4, 1-6, 10-7 win over Chad Woodham.
