Baseball Falls In Series Finale At SEMO

EIU baseball fell on the road, 13-1, to Southeast Missouri

Cape Girardeau, Mo.-  Southeast Missouri's tallied 16 hits Sunday afternoon in the series finale. The SEMO offense scored 13 runs to defeat EIU 13-1.
 
With the loss EIU drops to 10-19 (2-10 OVC), While Southeast Missouri improves to 14-18 (10-5 OVC) on the season.
 
Spenser Dexter got the start on the mound for the Panthers in the series finale. Dexter tossed 4.2 innings, with six hits, four runs, and three walks. Dexter suffered his first loss of the season on the hill for the Panthers as he fell to 0-1 on the season.
 
Carlos Vega was dominant on the mound for Southeast Missouri tossing 7.0 innings, with three hits, two walks, and seven strikeouts. Vega improved to 4-3 on the season with the win.
 
SEMO got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning when Trevor Ezell doubled to left center scoring Devon Wilson.
 
Justin Dirden led the SEMO offense, going 2-for-4 with four RBIs, a run, and a walk. Ezell finished 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBIs, and a walk.
 
EIU scored their first run of the game in the top of the eighth inning. Alex Stevenson, who came in the game as a pinch hitter for Frankie Perrone in the top of the eighth inning, led off the inning drawing a walk. Ryan Knernschield would move Stevenson to second with a single to center. Joseph Duncan was able to move Stevenson into scoring position on a sacrifice to center. The Panthers coaching staff would give Justin Smith the call to pinch-hit for Josh Turnock. Smith would drive in the Panthers first run of the game on a sacrifice to right field.
 
Jimmy Govern went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. Ryan Knernschield finished the afternoon 2-for-3.
