OXFORD, Ala. - Eastern Illinois softball fell 3-1 to No. 2 Austin Peay in the OVC Tournament Friday night. Maria DeVito finshed the game 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Panthers.
EIU finishes the 2018 season with a 36-20 overall record.
The Governors posted two runs quickly in the first inning on three hits against EIU starting pitcher Michelle Rogers. Danielle Liermann tripled to tally an RBI and scored the final run of the inning on a single from Carly Mattson. Mattson added another run for APSU with a solo homer in the top of the sixth to extend their lead to 3-0.
The Panthers scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the sixth. APSU walked Jennifer Ames who led off for EIU. Ames would score on a sacrifice fly from Kayla Bear. DeVito and Taylor Monahan each singled in the inning for the Panthers.
Jessica Wireman retired seven batters after taking over pitching duties in the first inning.
