Baseball Falls to Murray State

EIU baseball fell in the OVC tournament, 15-5, to Murray State

Oxford, Ala. – Eastern Illinois baseball fell 15-5 to Murray State in the OVC Tournament Tuesday night. #7 Murray State defeated #8 EIU 15-5 to advance to the next round of the OVC tournament.
 
EIU finishes the 2018 season with a 23-31 overall record.
 
Murray State got on the board early when Grant Wood belted a two run homer to right field in the first inning.
 
The Panthers answered back in the top of the second inning. Hunter Morris led off the inning with a leadoff double to right field. Logan Beaman followed up with a single through the left side to advance Morris to third. The Panthers would get on the board when Jimmy Huber hit a sacrifice fly to right field.
 
Murray State added to their lead in the bottom of the second inning scoring four runs to lead 6-1.
 
Mike Farnell drove in Murray State's seventh run of the game driving a one run double to right center.
 
Ryan Knernschield led off the top of the fifth inning with a leadoff double to left field. Joseph Duncan was able to drive in Knernschield with a two-out single up the middle.
 
Murray State added seven runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to extend their lead to 14-2.
 
Tyler Tesmond would score the Panthers third run of the game hitting a single through the left side to score Justin Smith. Duncan and Govern both drew back-to-back walks to load the bases for Dougie Parks. Parks would stay alive drawing the Panthers third straight walk scoring Tesmond. Morris would draw another walk in the inning marking the fourth straight walk issued by Tyler Horsley to drive in the Panthers fifth run of the game.
 
Alex Stevenson suffered the loss on the mound for the Panthers. Stevenson tossed 1.1 innings, with four hits, five runs, two walks, and a strike out.
 
Morris finished 1-for-2 with three walks, one run, one RBI, and one double.
