Baseball Splits Series Finale Double-Header At UT Martin

EIU baseball split their double-header against UT Martin on Sunday



Game One Box l Game Two Box

Martin, Tenn. –Eastern Illinois and UT Martin closed out their weekend series with a double-header Sunday. UT Martin won on a walk off double in game one of the double-header. EIU split the double-header taking the second game 10-9.
 
Game One: UT Martin 3, Eastern Illinois 2
 
UT Martin was able to walk off in the bottom of the ninth after Eastern Illinois tied the game in the top of the ninth.
 
Alex Stevenson got the start for the Panthers for the first game of the double-header on Sunday. Stevenson tossed 6.0 innings allowing one hit, one run, one walk, and striking out five batters. Michael Starcevich suffered the loss on the mound for the Panthers after tossing 2.2 innings, with four hits, four strikeouts, two runs, and a walk. With the loss Starcevich dropped to 1-2 on the season.
 
Dougie Parks led off the fourth inning with a leadoff walk. Hunter Morris followed up with a single to left field. Jimmy Govern would keep the Panther rally alive reaching on a bunt to third. Matt Albert broke the scoring drought in the fourth inning when he reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Parks.
 
UT Martin answered back scoring in the bottom of the sixth and eighth inning. Collin Edwards got the Skyhawks on the board reaching on a Parks error. In the bottom of the eighth inning the Skyhawks took the lead when Ben Aslett singled to left.
 
The Panthers come back to tie the game in the top of the ninth inning. Govern led off the inning with a leadoff single to right center. Albert would move Govern into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt.  Ryan Knernschield would drive in the tying run with a single up the middle.
 
Jordan Stoner would answer back in the bottom of the ninth inning hitting a walk off double to right center to defeat the Panthers 3-2.
 
Game Two: Eastern Illinois 10, UT Martin 9
 
The Panthers got on the board first in the top of the second inning when Knernschield grounded out to second to drive in Govern.
 
UT Martin would fire back in the bottom of the second scoring four runs. Albright gave the Skyhawks the lead hitting a two run single through the left side. Aslett would extend their lead to 4-1 when he hit a two run double down the left field line.
 
The Panthers would grab the lead back from the Skyhawks in the top of the third inning. Eastern Illinois would rally with three RBI singles in the inning and a fielder's choice to take the lead back from UT Martin.
 
The Panthers would keep their scoring streak alive scoring in the fourth and fifth inning to make it four straight innings that Eastern Illinois had a run. Hunter Morris picked up his second RBI of the game singling to second. Govern would follow up in the inning hitting a sacrifice fly to center to score Jimmy Huber. In the top of the fifth inning Huber would drive in Joe Duncan with a single down the right field line.

UT Martin would take the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Stoner single to short.
 
Eastern Illinois would score two runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead.  Huber earned his second RBI of the game singling to right to score Joseph Duncan. Morris would drive in the winning run for the Panthers with a triple to right center scoring Parks.
 
Dustin Wilson earned his second win of the season improving to 2-3 on the season. Wilson tossed 0.2 innings, allowing one hit. Michael Starcevich picked up his seventh save of the season. Starcevich tossed 1.0 innings striking out two batters.
