Justin Brown Joins EIU Men's Basketball Staff

New assistant coach win JUCO National Championship last season

Justin Brown, an experienced junior college assistant coach, joined head coach Jay Spoonhour's Eastern Illinois men's basketball staff in July of 2018.
 
Brown comes to Eastern Illinois following his second stint as an assistant coach at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas.  At South Plains, Brown worked under head coach Steve Green helping coach the team to the NJCAA National Championship this past season with a 28-8 record.  It was the second NJCAA National Championship ring that Brown won working at South Plains for Green as the school also captured the title in 2012 during his first stint at the school.   Brown first coached at South Plains from 2011-13 and then returned to coach from 2016-18.
 
A solid recruiter, Brown helped place 34 student-athletes at NCAA Division I programs during his time at two different junior colleges. 
 
A former NJCAA and NCAA Division II player, Brown began his coaching career at his alma mater serving as an assistant coach at Southwest Baptist in Missouri for the 2009-10 season.  He then was the head coach for one season at Perspective Charter High School in Chicago before returning to the college game with his first run at South Plains. 
 
Brown served as the assistant coach at USU Eastern Utah helping the program post three winning seasons from 2013-16.   
 
Brown played at Southwest Baptist earning his degree in 2009.  He helped the program win back-to-back MIAA championships in 2008 and 2009.
