CHARLESTON, Ill. – The Eastern Illinois Volleyball team heads to Peoria to compete in the CEFCU Classic this weekend. The Panthers are coming off a third place finish at the Drake Bulldogs tournament. EIU heads into this weekend with a record of 3-8.
Abby Knight was named to the Drake Bulldogs Tournament All-Tournament Team. The honor marks the first All-Tournament team mention for the senior middle hitter. Knight finished the weekend with 20 kills (1.43 kill-per-set), eight blocks, and an assist.
Laurel Bailey leads the Panther offense in kills with 104 on the season. Bailey also has 99 digs, 11 blocks, nine aces, and one assist.
On the defensive side of the court,
Anne Hughes leads with 210 digs, while
Maggie Runge leads in blocks with 39. Hughes was named the OVC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in her career this past weekend. Hughes collected 78 digs averaging 5.57 digs-per-set.
Gina Furlin heads into the weekend leading the Panthers in assists with 159. Freshman
Bailey Chandler seeks to help contribute offensively with her 152 assists.
The Panthers will face Bradley on Friday to kick off the tournament. Bradley heads into the weekend with a 7-2 record. Erica Haslag enters this weekend leading the Braves offense with a team-high 124 kills.
Milwaukee heads into the weekend sporting a record of 0-10. Klej Cerniauskaite enters the tournament looking to keep the Milwaukee defense in check with her team leading 28 blocks.
Omaha enters the weekend with a 4-5 record. Isabella Sade heads into the weekend as the current leader in kills for Omaha with 87.
Following the CEFCU Classic, Eastern Illinois volleyball will return home to Lantz Arena. The Panthers will play host to SIUE on Sept. 19.
