CHARLESTON, Ill. – Heavy rain forced the delay and relocation of Friday afternoon's women's soccer match between Eastern Illinois and Indiana State.  Following a 20-minute delay, the match was moved to the adjacent EIU Rugby Field where the Sycamores scored two second half goals to beat EIU, 3-1.
Â
The Panthers are now 1-3-2 on the season and will play at Northern Illinois on Sunday at 2 p.m.  ISU improved to 4-2-2 on the year.
Â
Itxaso Aguero gave the Panthers the early lead as she scored with a redirected shot on a pass from
Sarah DeWolf in the 20th minute of the match. It was the first career goal for the sophomore from Spain.Â
Â
Indiana State scored the equalizer just before the end of the first half as Katie Wells crossed a pass at the top of the box that Katie Sidloski finished off for the Sycamores first goal in the 38th minute.
Â
Wells and Sidloski would duplicate the same play in the second half as Sidloski scored what proved to be the game winner in the 48th minute on an assist from Wells.
Â
ISU had a chance to add a third goal a few minutes later but EIU goalkeeper
Sara Teteak made a save on a penalty kick by Danielle Varner.Â
Â
The Sycamores would get that insurance goal in the 69th minute with Wells finishing off a pass from Kathryn Besserman for the goal.
Â
EIU had five total shots in the match with three shots on goal. Two came from Aguero with DeWolf adding the other.Â
Angela Corcoran and
Kate Olson added shots for EIU.
