NOTES TO KNOW
• Eastern Illinois had its best offensive production of the season on Saturday but two second quarter turnovers cost the Panthers 14 points during a 40-29 loss to Tennessee Tech. EIU dropped to 0-5 on the season, 0-1 in the OVC. The Panthers face a Murray State team that is 2-3 on the year, 0-1 in the OVC after a 40-7 road loss at UT Martin.
• Quarterback
Harry Woodbery set a school record for passing attempts in a game as he had 68 passing attempts against Tennessee Tech. The previous record was 61 by Jimmy Garoppolo during the 2012 season against Illinois State. Woodbery completed 34-of-68 for 334 yards and two touchdowns. He did throw one interception.
• Freshman
JJ Ross picked off a pass for the second straight week as he came up with one of two turnovers gained by the Panthers defense on Saturday. Ross is now the team leader with two interceptions this season which ranks 48th in the FCS. He is third among FCS freshmen behind Omar Brown (Northern Iowa) and Jaylon Jimmerson (Incarnate Word).
• Eastern Illinois was successful on a two-point conversion in the fourth quarter during Saturday's game against Tennessee Tech.
Harry Woodbery connected with
Xander Richards for the successful conversion. EIU's last successful two-point conversion was last season against Southeast Missouri with Woodbery hitting
Alexander Hollins for two.
THE SERIES
• Eastern Illinois and Murray State will be meeting for the 35th time on Saturday afternoon with both teams looking for their first Ohio Valley Conference win of the 2019 season. The Panthers hold a 19-15 all-time series lead with the two teams splitting the last four meetings. Last year Murray State won in Charleston 48-41 as the last three contests have been decided by a touchdown or less. The road team has won each of the last four contests. MSU's last home win in the series was Oct. 23, 2010, a 38-28 victory.
