Women's Basketball With Second Straight Road Win

Panthers run past Evansville 90-44

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Eastern Illinois broke open a close game with an impressive third quarter as the Panthers picked up a 90-44 road win over Evansville on Tuesday night at the Meeks Family Fieldhouse.

EIU improved to 3-2 on the season.   UE fell to 1-3.

EIU built a 34-25 halftime lead as the Panthers dominated play in the paint and on the boards.  The Panthers had 20 first half points in the paint while pulling down 12 first half offensive rebounds.  EIU would finish the game with 60 of its 90 points in the paint and 19 offensive boards.  EIU finished with a 47-28 rebounding advantage.

In the third quarter EIU limited Evansville to six points as they used two extended runs to lead 60-31 after three quarters.  Karle Pace had four points during a 12-2 run as she finished with 17 points. Lariah Washington capped another short EIU run in the quarter as she had 14 points in the win.

The Panthers continued to play solid defense in the fourth quarter as they would hold the Purple Aces to 26 percent shooting in the quarter and 28 percent for the game.    In the first half Evansville stayed in the game knocking down six 3-pointers.  They would only knock down one 3-pointer in the final half with Kayla Casteel hitting with just under five minutes left in the contest.

EIU opened the game with an 8-1run continually driving the ball to the basket.  Taylor Steele had four early points during the run and finished as one of five EIU players in double figures.  Steele finished with 12 points.  Jordyn Hughes came off the bench to score ten points and Claudia Stan added 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

Abby Feit led the Purple Aces with ten points.
