EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Eastern Illinois saw its 2019 women's soccer season come to an end on Sunday afternoon as the Panthers lost to SIUE in the quarterfinals of the OVC Tournament. The Cougars won 1-0.
EIU's season ends at 4-10-4 overall after EIU won 2-0 over Tennessee Tech on Friday evening in the opening round of the tournament. SIUE advances to the semifinals to face No. 1 seed Southeast Missouri. SIUE is now 9-5-5.
The lone goal of the contest came on an own goal in the 26th minute as EIU was attempting to clear a corner kick that was sent into a pile of players near the net. It would be the only goal allowed by senior goalkeeper
Sara Teteak in the two OVC Tournament matches. She would make 12 saves on Sunday.
EIU countered with six shots on goal that were turned away by Cougars keeper Jensen Schoch.
Pilar Barrio had two of the shots on goal for EIU with
Eva Munoz,
Lexi Ketterhagen,
Itxaso Aguero and
Sarah DeWolf picking up the others.
It marked the final collegiate match for EIU's senior class that includes Ketterhagen, DeWolf, Teteak,
Angela Corcoran,
Lindsey Carlson and
Rachel Pappas.
