EIU vs. UT Martin Box Score
MARTIN, Tenn. – In a match to decide which team would advance to next week's Ohio Valley Conference Tournament in Nashville, Sunday's contest between Eastern Illinois and UT Martin came down to a tie-breaker in the third set which landed in UTM's favor as the Skyhawks edged the Panthers 4-3.
The loss ends EIU's season at 11-11 overall, 2-6 in the OVC.
EIU opened the match with wins at number one and number three doubles to take the first point of the match.
Rachel Papavasilopoulos and Sristi Slaria won 6-4 at number one doubles.
Abby Carpenter and
Karla Contreras then won 6-4 at number three doubles.
EIU would add points with singles wins at number one and number two. Papavasilopoulos won 6-1, 6-1 at number one singles to improve to 19-3 in that position this season.
Slaria would win 6-4, 6-2 at number two singles as the senior ended her EIU career with 47 career singles wins which ranks as the seventh best total in school history.
UT Martin was able to pick up singles wins in the bottom portion of the line-up with straight set victories at number five and six singles added to a win at number three singles.
The final point then came down to the singles match at number four singles as Amelia Campbell for UTM and
Abby Carpenter of EIU battled to a tie-breaker in the third set. The final total would bounce in Campbell's favor for a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5) win.
