CHARLESTON, Ill. - George Dixon, who played the past season for Junior College National Champion Vincennes University, is the first player to sign with Eastern Illinois men's basketball as part of Coach Jay Spoonhour's spring recruiting class.

Dixon (6'5" / 230) played two seasons for Coach Todd Franklin at Vincennes helping the Trailblazers win the JUCO National Championship this season after helping the team place fourth at the NJCAA National Tournament as a freshman.  Dixon averaged 11.2 points and 9.1 rebounds per game this past season earning All-Region 24 honors.  He led the nation in offensive rebounds pulling down 164.  Dixon posted 11 double figure rebounding games with a high of 20 during the season.  He would finish the year shooting 56.2 percent from the floor.   As a freshman at Vincennes Dixon averaged 5.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.  He finished his freshman campaign with 100 offensive rebounds while shooting 56.4 percent from the floor.

Dixon is a native of Milwaukee, Wis., and began his prep career at Riverside High School leading the team to the City Title as a junior averaging 16 points and 12 rebounds per game.  Dixon would earn All-City honors that season.  He finished his prep career at IMG Academy in Florida averaging 14 points and nine rebounds per game.

"George is a hard playing, tough competitor.  His teams have won on such a high level and a lot it is because of his ability to make plays," said Spoonhour.  "He rebounds with two hands, he finishes lay-ups and he plays real hard on the defensive end.  He's going to help us a lot."
