ST. LOUIS – The Eastern Illinois volleyball team played its lone exhibition match of the fall on Saturday afternoon falling 4-0 at Saint Louis. The Panthers regular season opener will be on Friday, Aug. 30 when EIU hosts South Dakota State at 6 p.m. as part of this year's EIU Panther Invitational sponsored by Holiday Inn Express.
The two teams agreed to four sets for the exhibition regardless of outcome with SLU winning all four sets by scores of 25-22, 25-16, 25-22 and 25-18.
EIU played 12 players in the match with freshman
Ireland Hieb finishing with a team high nine kills on 30 attacks.
Laurel Bailey, the Panthers top returning attacker from last season, added seven kills as did
Katie Sommer.
The Panthers best attacking set of the match was in set two as they finished with a team attack percentage of .320 registering nine kills on 25 attacks with only one error. EIU finished the match hitting .132.
Bailey Chandler had 25 assists while
Madison Cunningham posted a team high 19 digs.
Two Billikens players finished with double figure kills led by Maya Taylor with 15.
