With no fall sports currently underway for 2020, EIU Athletics looks back at some events that took place during the week for This Week In EIU Athletics History presented by Consolidated Communications... 

Nov. 2, 2000 - The Eastern Illinois men's cross country team won its third consecutive Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championship as the Panthers edged Eastern Kentucky by one point.  Kyle O'Brien won individual medalist honors winning the 8K event by two seconds.  Jeff Jonaitis placed third and Dan Mackey placed seventh for first team honors 

Nov. 3, 1980 - The Eastern Illinois women's cross country team placed first at the Midwest AIAW Division II meet as the Panthers finished just ahead of Milwaukee and Marquette in the event.  Robin Smith placed second in the Division II race while Ruth Smith (5th) and Gina Sperry (6th) were also top finishers for the Panthers on the 5,000 meter course.  

Nov. 4, 2000 - Eastern Illinois volleyball set a program record for kills in a three set match as the Panthers recorded 68 during a 3-0 win over Eastern Kentucky,  In the final season of sideout scoring EIU had four players finish with double figure kills led by Karen Liss with 16.  EIU passed out 66 assists in the win with Genevieve Ramos and Rebecca Ooyen each finishing with 28.  

Nov. 5, 1983 – Henry Castellanos knocked home a pair of first half field goals while Tyrone Davis put the game away with a third quarter touchdown as Eastern Illinois football locked up a share of the AMCU Conference title with a 12-3 win over Southwest Missouri State.  Five EIU players finished with double figure tackles led by Chris Nicholson with 19 tackles including two sacks. 

Nov. 6, 1976 - In the final Eastern Illinois men's soccer match coached by Fritz Teller, EIU closed out the season with a 2-0 win over Aurora.  Siggy Eichhorst and Greg Millburn scored the goals for the Panthers as they finished the campaign with an 8-2-3 record.  EIU closed the season with four straight wins, all shutouts.  

Nov. 7, 1999 - Eastern Illinois women's soccer won its first Ohio Valley Conference Tournament title with a 3-1 win over Tennessee Tech. TTU scored just four minutes into the match before Carole Griggs knotted the contest at 1-1 midway through the first half.  Jean Gehrke would score what proved to be the match winner in the 57th minute with Ida Hakansson tacking on an insurance goal in the 78th minutes.  

Nov. 8, 1980 - Alonzo Lee picked off a pass and raced 30 yards for a score early in the fourth quarter to help ice a 14-9 EIU football win over Northern Iowa.  Otis Grant caught four passes for 102 yards including a 58-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter.  The Panthers defense picked up seven sacks on UNI's quarterback.
