CHARLESTON, ILL. - Eastern in the first game fell to the Gamecocks 5-4. Alex Stevenson was awarded the loss in game one against JSU. Will Klein put on a show for the scouts at Coaches Stadium on Saturday morning. Klein pitched 6.2 innings and recorded nine strikeouts, three walks on three earned runs.

Stevenson pitched a total of 2.1 innings, gave up four hits and a walk and gave up two runs.

The Panthers line up had a nice game one, ending with 11 hits and three walks. Their big sixth inning tied up the game as EIU looked to have the momentum, but fell in the final innings. A good outing from EIU's offense despite the loss.

Trey Sweeney continues his incredible start to the season as he ended the day going 3-5 with two RBI.

Ryan Knernschield went 2-4 on the day and accounted for one of the runs for the Panthers.

Christian Pena, Matt Mackey, Gunner Smith, Dalton Doyle and Keith Kerrigan all finished with a hit under their belt in game one.

Kerrigan and Doyle each ended with a RBI on the game along with some great defensive efforts.

Game two went the Panthers way as Malatestinic and Jason DeCicco shut out the Gamecocks. Malatestinic pitched eight complete innings and let up only five hits and one walk. He recorded four strikeouts on the day and was awarded his third win of the season. Malatestinic is currently holds a 3-0 record, the best in the Panthers rotation. A couple of highlight plays in left field by Kerrigan saved the Panthers from letting up any.

DeCicco closed out the game for EIU and let up nothing against the strong line up of JSU. DeCicco posted a strikeout against one of his three batters faced.

The offense looked great throughout all eight innings played against JSU, despite only notching nine hits on the day. The Panthers vision was off the charts as they drew six walks at the plate. For comparison, the Panthers ended with seven strikeouts, only one more than the amount of walks drawn.

Ryan Ignoffo went 2-4 in game two, including an absolute bomb over the fence in left center. Ignoffo finished with two RBI.

Grant Emme drew a walk, roped in a hit and crossed home for the Panthers in four at bats in the second game as the lead off man.

Doyle wasn't finished with the Gamecocks after the second, going 2-4 and finishing with two RBI.

Knernschield, Sweeney and Mackey all ended the day with another hit one their seasons.

The Panthers will finish out the series against JSU at 1 pm at Coaches Stadium tomorrow. Follow EIU_Baseball on Twitter for updates during the game.
