Eastern Illinois softball coach
Tara Archibald has added transfer outfielder Katie Nicholson to the Panthers roster next season. A transfer from Lake Land College in nearby Mattoon, Nicholson will have three years remaining to play with the Panthers following the shortened 2020 season.
Â
During the shortened season Nicholson hit .340 earning All-Region honors as the team posted a 21-4 record and was ranked No. 14 in the NJCAA poll.  During her freshman campaign she was an All-Region and Region 24 All-Tournament Team selection helping lead the team to the Regional Championship and appearance in the national tournament.  In her career she stole 33 bases while only being caught stealing twice. This season she was 5-of-5 on stolen bases with three triples.
Â
"We are thrilled to add Katie to our team! She has played for a winning program and a very well coached team at Lake Land the past two years. I know she will come in very prepared and ready to compete right away," said Archibald. Â "Katie is extremely fast and so fun to watch run the bases. She will bring great athleticism and work ethic to our program both on the field and in the weight room. We can't wait to see Katie in EIU Blue this fall!"

Nicholson played at Bedford North Lawrence High School in Indiana helping her team win the Sectional Championship as a senior. In the summer of 2018 she helped lead her club team to the USSSA 18U National Championship in Florida.Â
