CHARLESTON, Ill. – Nearly two weeks ago SIUE built a 2-0 lead over Eastern Illinois at the half only to see the match postponed due to severe weather that prevented the match from being completed.
Â
Fast forward 12 days and the two teams met again at Lakeside Field on a dry, autumn afternoon with SIUE getting one goal in each half to collect a 2-0 win over EIU.
Â
EIU fell to 4-9-2 overall, 2-4-1 in the OVC as the Panthers will play their final regular season match on Thursday at Austin Peay. A win or draw in the contest sends EIU to the OVC Tournament the following week.  SIUE moved to 7-6 overall, 4-2 in the OVC as the Cougars have two matches remaining on the schedule.
Â
SIUE took a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute as Myah Diekema advanced a ball from midfield and continued to dribble to within 20-yards unchecked. She would send a shot to the upper right corner of the goal for what proved to be the match winner.
Â
The Cougars insurance goal came in the 50th minute as Mackenzie Litzsinger headed home a ball with the assist credited to Diekema and Maria Haro.
Â
EIU would have six shots during the match with shots on goal by
Jenna Little and
Niondina Nystrom.Â
