DENVER, CO -- Eastern Illinois Men's Soccer lost 2-0 on the road against the Denver Pioneers on Saturday evening. With the loss, the Panthers drop to 1-6-1 overall and 1-1-0 in Summit League conference play.
EIU attacked early and often, registering three shot attempts in the first four minutes of action, but could not capitalize on the opportunities afforded to them. The game was a defensive battle for much of the first half from that point forward until Denver's Lukas Fisher scored a goal on a penalty kick in the 36th minute to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. Fisher then quickly found the net again to extend the margin to 2-0 and ultimately seal the game.
Denver outshot EIU 15-8, including a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Pioneers also held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Maxwell Allen and
Gorka Delgado led the Panthers with two shots apiece, including two shots on goal from Allen.Â
Jonas Castelhano had the other shot on goal for EIU.Â
Nikola Salopek,
Chad Hamler, and
Micah McReynolds also each registered a shot for EIU.
Next up, the Panthers will return home for a matchup against Summit League opponent Omaha on Saturday, October 9. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 pm.
