The Panthers drop their second match on the weekend against UT Martin by a score of 0-3. UT Martin won all set by scores of 17-25, 16-25, and 17-25. EIU loses their fourth conference game, and drop to 7-7 on the season.
Eastern started the first set down four points, 12-16. UT Martin then went on a 5-0 run to go up 16-21, and would finish the set winning 17-25.
Emily Wilcox went three for six in the first set on kills, and
Summerlyn Smith picked up eight assists.
Annika Black and
Kameryn Sillmon both picked up a block in the set. UT Martin was let by Karen Scanlon with five kills with Jessica Reynolds and Addison Conley both adding four kills.
EIU was down 7-14 early in the second, but fought back to make it 10-14 with a 3-0 run. The Skyhawks would extend their lead to 11-19, and eventually go on to win 16-25. Sillmon picked up another block in the set with Wilcox collecting two of her own. The Panthers had a 0.77 hitting percentage through two sets. Scanlon picked up four more kills and Conley added five of her own for UT Martin.
UT Martin would close the day winning 17-25 after the Panthers kept it close early with a score of 12-16.Â
Ireland Hieb added three kills in the final set, and
Bailey Chandler added five assists but it was not enough on Saturday afternoon. Scanlon collected four more kills for the Skyhawks as they would go on to win the match 0-3.
UT Martin was led by Scanlon with 13 kills, Conley with 11 kills, Haeleigh Paulino with 17 assists, and Addy Vaughn with 16 assists. The Skyhawks improved to 8-10 on the season.
EIU had contributions from Wilcox with five kills and three blocks, Hieb with four kills and two blocks, Sillmon with four kills and four blocks, and Chandler and Smith with 10 assists each. EIU drops to 0-4 in the conference.
The Panthers will be back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 5 p.m. at Lantz Arena against SIUE.
