Volleyball Honors Seniors For Last Home Series

EIU ends regular season against Austin Peay

ON-TAP: Eastern Illinois returns home for their final regular season home series this weekend as the Governors of Austin Peay come to Charleston to face-off against the Panthers. The Panthers are coming off two hard fought losses to Tennessee Tech last weekend while Austin Peay is coming off a loss to Murray State on Wednesday, Nov. 10. The Panthers look to close out the season strong as they celebrate the careers of our four seniors: Danielle Allen, Bailey Chandler, Kylie Michael, and Kameryn Sillmon.

ALL-TIME SERIES: EIU is currently losing the all-time series against Austin Peay, 23-27. Last season during the condensed Ohio Valley Conference schedule due to COVID-19, the Panthers lost both matches they played against the Governors. Eastern is currently 7-2 all-time against AP in 5-set matches.

OVC UPDATE: This marks the ninth week of conference play for the OVC. Currently, Morehead State leads the conference with an 14-2 record in the OVC and a overall record of 18-9. Austin Peay and Southeast Missouri are both currently tied for second place with a 12-4 record in the OVC. Eastern Illinois stays at eighth in the conference with a 3-13 conference record, and are 10-16 overall. They are coming off two losses against Tennessee Tech last weekend. The Governors of Austin Peay defeated UT Martin twice last weekend, and lost to Murray State on Wednesday this week. The Panthers need to retain the eighth spot in the standings to make the OVC Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 18.

OVC INDIVIDUAL LEADERS: Kameryn Sillmon currently ranks third in the OVC in hitting percentage with a .286 and Emily Wilcox sits in eighth with a .266 percentage. Danielle Allen is in fourth place in kills per set with 3.39, and has 302 kills on the season. Summerlyn Smith moves up one spot to fifth in assists per set with 7.38. Kylie Michael is currently second in the conference in aces per set with 0.33. Christina Martinez Mundo ranks seventh in the OVC in digs per set with an average of 4.04.

SENIOR NIGHT: The Panthers have four seniors that will be honored before the final home match on Saturday, Nov. 13. Danielle Allen is a four-time member of the EIU volleyball team and has 517 kills in her career. She currently leads the Panthers in kills this season with 302. Bailey Chandler is a four-time member of the EIU volleyball team and has 2228 career assists. She is currently in ninth place all-time in EIU history in assists. Kylie Michael is a five-time member of the EIU volleyball team and has 490 kills in her career. She has reached over 100 kills in every season she has played in. Finally, Kameryn Sillmon is a two-time member of the EIU volleyball team and has 186 kills and 106 blocks in her career. She currently leads the Panthers in blocks, and has led them in that category for the past two seasons. The seniors will be honored before Saturday's match at 6 p.m.

NEXT UP: After Eastern Illinois wraps up the regular season with Austin Peay, the OVC Tournament will start on Thursday, Nov. 18 and will be played on various campus sites. EIU looks to retain the eighth seed in order to move on to the conference tournament.
 
HEAD COACH: Sara Thomas enters her second season as the head coach at Eastern Illinois and marks her first full season at the helm. Thomas is assisted by Manolo Concepcion and Ana Paula Zandona. The Panthers look to build off their 2-14 record last season in a condensed COVID-19 season.
