Men's Soccer Loses Finale But Honors Senior Class

Panthers finish the season at 2-12-1

CHARLESTON, ILL -- Eastern Illinois men's soccer took a 1-0 loss on their final game of the Fall 2021 regular season against Oral Roberts.  With the loss, the Panthers finish the year at 2-12-1 overall and 1-5-0 in Summit League conference play.

The Panthers were able to keep the Golden Eagles off the board for most of the first half despite being outshot 13-2 in the period. But ORU's Nathan Ndomba found the back of the net in the 41st minute to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 halftime lead.  EIU was able to fire off five shots in the second half, but were unable to take advantage.

Overall, ORU outshot EIU 15-7, including an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal.  ORU also held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Peter Allen Jr. came off the bench to lead EIU in shots with three.  Felipe Kerr Lourenco and Micah McReynolds each had a shot on goal for the Panthers.

After the game, EIU honored nine seniors who will be completing their education and receiving their degrees from EIU.  Those nine seniors are as follows:

A six-year member of the Panthers from Naperville, Ill., Jonathan Burke appeared in 55 matches for the Panthers in his career.  Burke's 249 saves rank fourth all-time in EIU school history.  His 44 saves for the 2021 fall season currently ranks second in the Summit League.  In the 2021 spring season, Burke finished with a conference-leading 69 saves and a conference-best 6.90 saves per game.  In 2019, he recorded 70 saves with a conference-high .737 save percentage and a conference high-tying six shutouts.  Burke earned Summit League second-team all-conference honors in 2019 and was named to the Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence in the Spring of 2021. 

A native of Sedalia, Mo. who came to EIU by way of State Fair Community College, Landon Dove appeared in the Panthers' season-opener against Bradley in the Spring of 2021. 

A native of Sao Paolo Brazil, Jonas Castelhano came to EIU in 2019 by way of Mercer County Community College.  Castelhano appeared in 38 games for the Panthers in his career.  He netted a game-winning goal in 2019 against Purdue Fort Wayne and also recorded an assist against Saint Xavier (Ill.) that season.  Castelhano was named to the Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence in both 2019 and the spring of 2021. 

A native of Madrid, Spain, Hector Martinez came to EIU by way of Universidad Complutense de Madrid. 

A native of Bilbao, Spain, Gorka Delgado came to EIU in 2020 by way of Richard Bland College in Virginia.  He appeared in 2 games in the spring of 2021 and recorded an assist in the season-opener against Bradley.  He has appeared in 9 games in the 2021 season and has recorded ten shots and four shots on goal. 

A native of Valencia, Spain, Alejandro Lurbe came to EIU in 2020 by way of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.  He appeared in 24 games for the Panthers in his career, including all 11 games in the spring of 2021, when he recorded a goal against Oral Roberts and a goal against Denver.  He also had one assist against Kansas City and was named to the Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence for the spring of 2021. 

A native of East Lansing, Michigan, Shady Omar came to EIU in 2017.  He appeared in 63 games for the Panthers in his career, including 43 starts.  He recorded seven goals, including a game winner against Mercer in his sophomore year.  Omar led the Panthers with three goals in his junior year and tied for the team lead with two assists in the spring of 2021.  Omar was also named to the Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence for the spring of 2021. 

A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Davi Girardi came to EIU in 2019 by way of Spartanburg Methodist College.  He appeared in 30 games for the Panthers in his career.  He finished the 2019 season with two goals, including a game-winner against Belmont.  He leads the team this season with two goals. He was named to the Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence for the spring of 2021. 

A native of Morris, Ill., Mac VanOudt came to EIU in 2018.  He appeared in five games for the Panthers in his career and was named to the Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence for 2019 and the spring of 2021.
