NORMAL, Ill. - Eastern Illinois women's tennis returned to action for the first time in two weeks as the Panthers lost a Sunday morning contest at Illinois State, 6-1.
EIU scored its lone point at No. 1 singles as
Rachel Papavasilopoulos remained undefeated on the year with a three set win over Tijana Zlatanovic. Papavasilopoulos won 6-4, 6-7, 6-2. She has now won 17 straight matches at No. 1 singles spanning over the last three seasons.
Papavasilopoulos also teamed with
Lauren Ellis at No. 2 doubles as they won that contest 6-4. Illinois State would win at No. 3 and No. 1 doubles to take the early scoring lead in the match.
Christine Gouws played at No. 2 singles for EIU and pushed her match to three sets before falling to Natalia Bravo. Gouws won the opening set 7-6 before Bravo rallied in the second and third 6-0, 6-3.
Illinois State would capture the remaining four singles matches in straight matches as the Redbirds improved to 4-4 on the year. EIU fell to 1-4.
