ST. LOUIS - Eastern Illinois men's tennis picked up its second win of the season on Thursday afternoon as the Panthers captured a 5-2 win over Saint Louis.
EIU improved to 2-1 on the season while this was the season opening match for Saint Louis.
Leading the match 3-2, the Panthers would win the deciding point with
Thomas Wallace at No. 5 singles as Wallace moved up one spot in the order. Wallace picked up a three-set decision over Jonathan Sadowski, 6-7, 6-2, 6-3.Â
Cameron Slabbert added the final point for EIU with a win at No. 6 singles as he slid into the singles order. Slabbert won 6-2, 6-3.
After both teams won one match in doubles play,
Karan Srivastava and
Pau Riera would edge Oscar Alvarez and Adam Behun at No. 2 doubles winning 7-6 in a tiebreak to give EIU the doubles point.
The two teams would split the first four singles matches with Srivastava winning at No. 2 singles and
Charles Courteau winning at No. 4 singles.  Srivastava beat Alvarez in three sets 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. Courteau also needed three sets to beat Pavel Badaiantis 3-6, 7-6, 6-1.
