MARTIN, Tenn. –
Kylie Michael finished with 14 kills and 11 digs while hitting .303 for Eastern Illinois volleyball on Sunday evening. The 14 kills were half of the Panthers total in the match as EIU fell in three sets, 3-0, at UT Martin.
EIU fell to 0-5 on the year while UTM improved to 2-1 winning 25-23, 25-17, 25-13.
Michael had six of her kills in the opening set as the two teams had nine ties. Trailing 22-20 in the set, the Panthers knotted the score at 22 all with a kill by Michael and a Skyhawks attack error. The two teams would then trade points for a 23-23 tie. UTM captured the final two points of the set, the final one on a kill by Addison Conley. Conley finished with a team-high ten kills as UTM had three players with eight or more kills in the match.
In the second set UT Martin jumped out to a 6-2 lead following back-to-back errors by EIU. A service ace by Baillie Kearns and another attack error by the Panthers pushed UTM's lead out to 16-10. EIU would have seven attack errors in the set, hitting .091. The lead ballooned to 20-12 after three straight UTM kills by Logan Wallick, Conley and Karen Scanlon. Scanlon hit .643 in the match with nine kills on 14 attacks. Wallick added eight kills.
UT Martin continued to heat up on the attack in the third set hitting .378 en route to a .311 team attack percentage for the match. Tied 5-5 after a kill and service ace by Michael, UTM went on a 9-1 run with four Skyhawks kills and four Panther errors mixed in. EIU would get late points in the set on another kills and ace by Michael for two points and an
Elisavet Papageorgiou kill for another point.
Christina Martinez Mundo led EIU with 13 digs and a service ace. Kearns led UTM with 14 digs and two aces.
